Timing is everything. And for Seville-born, Barcelona-based producer Brunetto, the time is now. While his discography spans back to 2005 with releases such as “Déjalo Así Bru”, after his 2008 recording “B+”, he focused his efforts in other aspects of the music industry. Now back with a new LP titled “Sheroine”, Brunetto has produced nothing short of an astonishing work of art that ensnares moody and moving traces of IDM, break beat, pop, and experimental Hip-Hop.
Beginning the album with “Evergreen” featuring the vocals of I Am Dive, the direction of the climate is set as a storming drum pattern is offset with indie guitar riffs, all captured within the web of a dark, cinematic soundscape. The instrumental based “Childs of God” is a breakbeat driven tune finely sewn together by galactic synths which points to the UK bigbeat era. “Your Roof Your Rules” plays out like a audible storyboard to an apocalyptic film, switching from ethereal to manic, yet somehow perfectly relative. “War Games”, featuring rapper Young Quincy, combines hard breaks and dark wave with Hip-Hop, while California emcee New5ense is brought on board to add lyrics to the beat frenzied “Survivor”. The title track “Sheroine” finds Brunetto cleverly switching lanes between borderline ambient, breaks, experimental electronica, and even patterns of drum and bass. “Cinnamon”, featuring the voice of Madrid actress Verónica Mey, is a dark and steamy synthpop meets new wave cut, which brilliantly closes the album.
In a market where many electronic albums have fallen victim to formula, “Sheroine” stands out as an LP created from an organic space. Dark, edgy, sensual and unquestionably atmospheric, Brunetto’s latest offering may have already found its way into the “Best of 2014”…early in the game.
