NYC’s The Wants will release their sophomore LP ‘Bastard’ on June 13th. Having already unveiled their song ’87 Gas’ last month, they not return with ‘Data Tumor’.

Similar to the dark sonics of ’87 Gas’, ‘Data Tumor’ is an eerie post-punk offering that deals with the battle of one’s individualism during this current landscape where digitalism and productising have become the norm dominating a person’s true self and decisions. The production is menacing, fostering a sense of urgency, gripping you from start to finish.

Regarding the single, The Wants’ Madison Velding-VanDam mentioned:

“‘Data Tumor’ inhabits the psychological push and pull of trying to assert individuality in a world intent on commodifying and distorting it. The faceless collective of information and stimuli incentivizes the surrender of personal agency. Choices have to be made or they are made for you.”
