If there were one band to place all of your chips on, in terms of being the next big thing, it would be safe to place your bet on The Sherlocks. Comprised of two pairs of brothers, Kiaran and Brandon Crook, as well as Josh and Andy Davidson, the Sheffield band is not only burning down stages with a slew of electric performances, but their debut single ‘Live For The Moment’ landed in the Official UK Singles Charts and upon first listen, it’s easy to understand why. The energetic and massive sounding indie track proved that the four could rock with the best, as if they were born to play. Having sold out hundreds of venues across the UK, their latest single ‘Heart Of Gold’ is another weighty piece of indie magic that shines with brilliant instrumentation and catchy lyricism. With support from BBC Radio 1, The Sherlocks a band that will rock the industry…hard.
Aside from being two pairs of brothers, when did you decide to form a band?
Kiaran Crook – Andy and Josh moved next door to Brandon and mines grandparents. We started playing football together then we started to jam! Then the band was formed!
Growing up, where there any particular bands that inspired you to want to create music?
Kiaran Crook – We are influenced by bands like The Jam, The Clash and The Police.
At one point did you know that you guys had something quite amazing with your sound? Was it from the jump or did it take a couple of years for your sound to develop?
Kiaran Crook – We are constantly developing our sound! We have been working with a new producer and we have been blown away with the results.
A few years ago you had a track entitled ‘Meantime’ which was from a demo. Is there any chance of releasing that song in the future?
Kiaran Crook – Anything is possible. It’s a great catchy track so we aren’t ruling nothing out.
Your song ‘Heart of Gold’ has gained spins on BBC Radio 1 with support from the likes of Huw Stephens. The music is definitely big. Can you talk a bit about the track and did you know straight away that this was going to catch on the way that it has?
Kiaran Crook – The track is about a personal experience from trying to make something work when you know in your mind it just can’t work. Massive support from Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music, absolute legend! He gave us our first play on the BBC. And then the single fed it’s way through to BBC Radio 1. We are really grateful for the support the BBC are currently showing towards our band. We’ve never been that type of band where people help us out. We have got to where we are now by pure graft!
As stated previously, your sound is really full and complete. Are there any specific producers that you are currently working with?
Kiaran Crook – Yeah Gavin Monaghan in a little studio in Wolverhampton. The man is a genius and true gentleman. It’s a pleasure to work with such a great man.
You have played loads of shows over the past couple of years with a large amount forthcoming this year. Which ones have been the most memorable for you?
Kiaran Crook – Leeds and Reading 2015 was massive for us! Can’t thank the amount of fans who turned up to see us enough! Them shows were incredible. Also we sold out the Leadmill in Sheffield, that was a night to remember.
With ‘Heart of Gold’ out in November, will there be an EP or album to come in 2016?
Kiaran Crook – We plan to release another big single after ‘Heart of Gold’ it’s incredible!
