Twin Limb's sound has been described as everything ranging from dream pop, post-punk and dark folk, on down to psychedelic. Whilst many of those elements can indeed be found in their music, there is something 'other' about what they create. Self-releasing their debut EP 'Anything Is Possible And Nothing Makes Sense' back in late 2015, their original sound took a re-shaping with the adding of third member Kevin Ratterman (the band previously only consisted of Maryliz Bender and Lacey Guthrie). The record was packed with sweet melodies gliding head-on with hazy, gorgeous and sometimes haunting instrumentation. In a way, this was the perfect set-up to their full-length 'Haplo', which is the band's mastering of their elevating, gumbo mixture of genres.
Two years ago Australian band Bloodhounds On My Trail released their 'Escape' EP, which found the group emersed in the sound of hazy and echoing shoegaze. Now set to release their forthcoming 'Haunted Isles' EP, the Melbourne-based foursome have shared the first track taken from the record entitled 'Over The Wall'. Tapping into the feel of early 80s new wave and post-punk whilst still using their platform on shoegaze as an underneath, the band have found an excellent blend, which makes us eager to hear their upcoming release.
Many months back L.A.-based band The Raveonettes launched their 'RAVE-SOUND-OF-THE-MONTH' project in which the duo would unveil a new song every month until December. Revealing their ninth track of the series entitled 'This Is Where It Ends', the song is a breezing and mellow of contrast of fairy tale vocals, laced a cinematic, haunting and surreal backdrop.
With their new album 'Big Sparks' out this Friday, Belgium band Few Bits have shared a stream of the title track. Dreamy and melodic constructed with grand production without the unnecessary overkill, lead singer Karolien Van Ransbeeck provide a smooth sailing down a path of happiness with airy, angelic vocals.
Falling somewhere between shoegaze and post-punk is the latest track 'Light Rain' by NYC band Dinowalrus. Taken from their forthcoming LP 'Fairweather', the song is a mid-tempo, easing bit that slides progressively with catch hooks and epic build-ups, all graciously emitting a sound that is reminiscent of Manchester's musical glory days of the late 80s and early 90s. You can stream 'Light Rain' down below.
Whenever a release pops up on the Inner Ear label out of Greece, you know it's worth checking out. The latest offering comes from Gioumourtzina with their debut LP 'Blakk Metall'. Dark yet subtle, the duo twist together ropes of new wave, shoegaze, indie and haunting electronica. Bold and obscure at times, Gioumourtzina surely know how to scale back at just the right amount to keep listeners tuned in whilst taking them on a mental and twisting ride of experimentation. 'Blakk Metall' is currently out now on Inner Ear Recordings. We have a stream of the album below.
On March 2nd Bolywool will release their new album 'Hymnals & Bombs'. Consisting of 14 songs in total, the album is a dreamy wave of moody rhythms and cinematic soundscapes which feels like a sonic representation of a brisk Swedish winter. Layered vocals act as dominant elements in songs such as 'Love Meander', where ethereal synths are simply a supporting foundation. Swimming in a certain beauty within the arrangements are also tones of melancholy which are highlighted in tracks such as 'Glorious Failure' and 'Hinterland'. Throughout the ride of 'Hymnals & Bombs', it feels like the ending will result in an enlightenment. Whatever the intent, it is evident that Bolywool are aiming at specific emotions rather than a soundtrack to keep you dancing, and this is actually a part of the magic.
Brooklyn band Beverly have announced the release of their sophomore album entitled 'The Blue Swell'. Set for release on May 6 via Kanine Records, the forthcoming record follows their 2014 debut LP 'Careers'. Beverly shared the track 'Crooked Cop', which is the first single off the new album, back in 2015.
After sharing their exciting track 'Air' last month, Liverpool's The Vryll Society now unleash another song entitled 'Coshh'. Taken from their EP 'Pangea', which will get released October 26th on Deltasonic Records. Continuing their psychedelic onslaught, 'Coshh' mellow beginning is followed by streaming guitar interplay, Santana style, as the vocals of Mike Ellis contribute to the ethereal and slightly haunting cut. Have a listen.
Hailing from Vienna is the shoegaze/noise band Mile Me Deaf, who have shared their latest song 'Capable Ride' taken from the album Eerie Bits of Future Trips. Not shying away from lo-fi and fuzz-oriented sonics, there is a distinct charm to the band's sound that bubbles with a grassroots spirit. Below is a stream of 'Capable Ride'. Have a listen.
