Lithuania's Kotori is one of those unorthodox artists who you discover and will then be a fan for the rest of their careers. Having released music for a few years now, she has blended everything from electronica to obscure pop. This has all led up to her LP entitled 'Cage'. An ambitious and eclectic roller coaster ride of punk, electronica, pop, new wave and everything in between, the record is one of the more interesting releases of 2016, raw and creative, sitting brilliantly in the spirit of acts such as Jenny Hval and more.

Whilst Ann Arbor and Detroit acts such as The Stooges and the MC5 were precursors to what would inspire bands to create a sound known as punk rock, the proper formation of the movement took place in New York City in the early 70s. Groups like The New York Dolls and The Velvet Underground went on to further lay a foundation for the scene with bands like Television, The Ramones and Patti Smith elevating the culture to new heights, eventually creating an international buzz. This legacy of the grit and grind, the hustle and the New York DIY ethic is one that Brooklyn band The So So Glos know oh so well. They are the now generation of rockers proudly flying the flag for NYC with a spirit and sound that is energetic and resonant.

Laura Peters' Psychic Love is one of the gems of bands bursting in the Los Angeles music scene. Having dropped songs over the past three years including the 'Mirrors/Medicine' release and 'The Weekend', the band have now unveiled their new album 'The Hive Mind'. Twelve songs in total, the LP is sweet taste of hazy alternative, surf rock, dream pop and more, stamped with sun-soaked melodies and premium production that is definitely an ear-delight. 'The Hive Mind' is one of those unexpected albums of 2016 that will more than likely make it on your list of faves for the year. There was no saturation of marketing or unnecessary hype, but rather a DIY style of heavenly, good music, simple and plain. Below is a preview of the record. Have a listen.
