Archy Marshall aka King Krule keeps the levels high in terms of videos with his latest offering 'Biscuit Town', taking from his current LP 'The OOZ'. Directed by cc Wade, there is an air of classicism as Marshall sits alone in a flat drinking away the pain, with other clips of him sitting at a bar. The hyper-real city gives the video a gothic appeal. Towards the end, King Krule is collapsed on the floor. This could be a symbol of iconic writers who have suffered the same fate. Never the less, this is one of the better videos we have seen in quite a while. Have a look.

Jazz - a music that has been a source of cultural and spiritual connections of a people trapped in a cruel web of uncertainty; a sound that has undergone multiple transformations over decades whilst simultaneously taking the world by storm. This was the form of expression for a charismatic trumpeter from New Orleans to a North Carolina-born saxophonist who used it to communicate to the heavens above, proving the ultimate supremacy was that of love. Yet in 2018 with the general public's ears being more attuned to synth-driven pop songs or bass-quaking trap music, where jazz stands in the mainstream psyche is indeed that of question. However the counter question is, does it really matter? When the music is produced with passion, heart and respect it will find its way to touch the emotions of people.
Helping to bring awareness to issues various societal issues as well as paying homage to those who are helping to combat the ills with 'The Defender Campaign', singer Mica Millar has shared her latest single which boasts the same title. 'The Defender' is a soulful and slightly haunting blend of Hip-Hop drum patterns underneath jazz-tinged toppings. Using her powerful vocals to deliver gripping lyricism, the brilliant song includes additional production from drum and bass legend Goldie and James Davidson.
Throughout the UK the sound of jazz music has been an integral part of inspiring some of the country’s most rooted and forward-thinking scenes. Whether it be DJs like Gilles Peterson and Chris Bangs laying down a foundation for the acid jazz movement in the late 80s that would go on to also encompass soul and Hip-Hop or the likes of 4Hero, Goldie and LTJ Bukem who fused jazz into drum and bass, charging with a Herbie Hancock aim of futurism, the music has flowed into various sub-genres even at times when it wasn’t the most fashionable in its traditional state. The broken beat community would go on to use the music as a backbone for a universe leaping style of production dripping with sophistication with artists such as 4Hero, Bugs In The Attic, IG Culture and a slew of others meshing that which is complex yet grooving. With the current state of music being dominated by trap-oriented sonics and synth-piercing pop, South London’s The Expansions are continuing to push the legacy of jazz and funk-stirred rhythms that are not only core but boundary pushing in the same breath.
