Athens band CHICKN have released their new LP 'Bel Esprit', the follow-up to their fantastic 2018 album 'WOWSERS'. With the latest record finding the band continuing to widen their musical palette, CHICKN have also stepped forth with the official video for their single 'She'll Be Apples', which is featured on the album.
Athens-based artist Eleni Karageorgou have announced news of the release of her project Post Lovers' self-titled debut album. Out December 10th on Inner Ear Records, one of the songs featured on the record is this melodic and breezy track 'Tiger'. Powered by an intricate guitar riff and light drums, the tune is a lush sliding of gentle indie folk. The song follows Post Lovers' debut 7" 'Melbourne/Going Anyway', released last year.
Originally recording as the duo Zimmy Lips with Konstantinos Iosifidis back in 2015, Greek singer and musician Jimmy Polioudis' solo project under Vagina Lips, went on to release a slew of records including the 2016 album 'Athanasia' and 2017's 'Elixir' and 'Lust For Trash' LPs. Now with his new record 'Generation Y' out November 12th on Inner Ear Recordings, Polioudis has unveiled his latest track 'This Is A Good Life'. An explosive blast of post-punk, the single emits a stark haunt whilst instrumentally speeding like a race car on the track. Athens group Daphne and the Fuzz have unveiled the video for their single 'Space and Sound'. Definitely on the trippy side, singer Daphne Lz sit in a bath tub whilst wearing a box-like glasses with eyes. This is interwoven with with kaleidoscopic imagery along with clips of Lz in front of backdrop with red lighting. The video is directed by Mariza Kapsabeli and Daphne Lz, with the song featured on Daphne and the Fuzz's new LP '2 AM' out via Inner Ear Records.
There has to be something magical in the water in the city of Athens, Greece at the moment. The amount of artists releasing incredible music continue to rise by the year. From psychedelic to electronica, Athens has been a hot bed for great acts for the past 7 years. CHICKN is one of those bands who have been consistent with releases, spawning amazing records ranging from quirky rock, psych, off-beat post-punk and even Americana. Their latest album 'WOWSERS!' is a festive melting pot of sounds, recorded live between 2017 and 2018. The band covers so much musical ground in a span of nine songs, that you will probably have to play it a few times to truly appreciate the diversity of the record. Not afraid to venture off into the obscure zone at times, this is an album for those who crave a level of fearlessness and fun in the music.
Athens has been a hotbed for talent for years now. Whether electronica, pop or rock, the city has produced a number of incredible acts. The Noise Figures are among that list, bringing some of the heaviest dose of psych and fuzz rock around. Having released their self-titled debut LP back in 2013, followed by their 2015 album 'Aphelion'. The pair consisting of George Nikas and Stamos Bamparis make their return with their third offering 'Telepath'. Holding back no punches, the ten song conceptual album touching of the idea of spirituality is packed with fire streaking garage rock, noise, alternative and stealth post-punk. Beyond energetic, the polished and beefy production is accompanied with lush melodies that add a a perfect balance to the hard-hitting rhythms.
Greek band Tango With Lions have built a firm foundation of dreamy pop and indie, making them one of Greece's highlighted groups within the past seven years. Releasing their applauded debut LP 'Verba Time' back in 2010, with their second album 'A Long Walk' released in 2013, Tango With Lions eventually took a break. Fast forward five years and the group led by frontwoman Kat Papachristou have made their return with a third album entitled 'The Light'. Constructed of nine songs which play like stories, the record is an emotive and cinematic Ferris wheel revolving around at times joyous and other times melancholic rhythms that are effortlessly tied together through polished instrumentation and Papachristou's sleek vocals.
Back in 2009, Greek producer and musician May Roosevelt entered the music scene with her debut EP 'Panda, a Story about Love and Fear'. Following up with her 2011 album 'Haunted' and her gorgeous 2013 LP 'Music to the Poetry of Ntinos Christianopoulos', Roosevelt now brings forth her new album 'Junea'. A lush journey through the digital landscape filled intricate compositions, the LP is a meeting ground of haunting arrangements and head-nodding drum patterns. Greece's pop queen Σtella unleashed her second LP 'Works For You' back in February of this year. Racking in critical praises from the press, she joins forces with again with Alex Z, returning with their Fever Kids band. The pair released their 'Play Hard' single in 2012, following up with their 'Peter, Debbie, Mary'/'Holding Grass' 7" in 2014. Known for their glistening brand of synth-pop, Fever Kids have now shared their new cut 'Living In Fame'. Upbeat in tempo, their indie meets pop stir has made for an exciting return for the Athens band with hopefully more tracks coming this year.
