Athens has been a hotbed for talent for years now. Whether electronica, pop or rock, the city has produced a number of incredible acts. The Noise Figures are among that list, bringing some of the heaviest dose of psych and fuzz rock around. Having released their self-titled debut LP back in 2013, followed by their 2015 album 'Aphelion'. The pair consisting of George Nikas and Stamos Bamparis make their return with their third offering 'Telepath'. Holding back no punches, the ten song conceptual album touching of the idea of spirituality is packed with fire streaking garage rock, noise, alternative and stealth post-punk. Beyond energetic, the polished and beefy production is accompanied with lush melodies that add a a perfect balance to the hard-hitting rhythms.
Over the past year Toronto's Dylan has dropped a number of high powered singles, including 'Mimosa', 'American Nightmare' and more. She has now unveiled her debut LP 'Sauvignon and a Kimono'. Weaving together the sounds of 80s pop, garage rock, punk and more, the new work personally chronicles the last three year period of her trials, tribulations and victories. Again maintaining level high production on the LP, Dylan is definitely ready to embrace stardom.
NYC band The Men are gearing up for the release of their new album 'Drift', landing March 2nd on City Slang. With the record coinciding with their ten year anniversary as a group, the band has also unveiled the final single taken from the upcoming LP. 'Killed Someone' is a rapid fire blasting of raw punk and garage rock, charged with burning guitar riffs and power drumming, exploding with sheer energy.
Hailing from Calgary is the exciting duo Miesha & The Spanksw, who are definitely delivering a high dose of garage rock the way it should be executed. Having worked with drummer and producer Danny Farrant of The Buzzcocks on their 'Stranger' EP back in 2016, the Canadian outfit are set to release their forthcoming album 'Girls Girls Girls' this year. One of the songs taken from the new record is their hard rocking track 'Atmosphere'. Raw to the core, flaring guitar riffs, coinciding with power drumming is the backbone to pop-style stadium chanting hooks and early stage love lyrics.
Brooklyn band QWAM have released their new EP 'Feed Me'. Comprised of five cuts orchestrated during late night NYC excursions, high-octane rhythms sound off like sirens in the distance as singer Felicia Lobo's 'tell it like it is' delivery is aided by rapid fire guitars, thunderous drumming and interestingly enough, sing-along choruses. Incorporating the sound of classic NYC punk, this is a soundtrack to those gritty nights in a dark venue where the music is loud and being who you are is nothing short of celebrated.
NYC's Acid Dad hit heavy with a force of raw punk and garage rock with their debut 7" 'Die Hard'. Comprised of two tracks, the title cut is a rolling shot of 70s inspired New York punk, racing with fuzzy guitar lines and power drumming. The B-side tune 'Bodies' slows down the pace slighlty as hazy riffs are coupled by mellow vocals.
