Back in 2011, Balto released their folk-embedded album 'October's Road'. Whilst musically intriguing, it would almost appear a strange connection from Balto creator Daniel Sheron's life in Russia to his move to the city of Portland. Ironically, many of the songs from Balto's debut LP were written during Sheron's journey from Moscow to Siberia, in which he would bring to America, spawning the band. Dropping their 'Monuments' album in 2012, Balto have now unveiled their new single 'CA Luv'. The song, ripe with 70s - 80s Americana emitting from the production, the bridging of the classic and modern styling of rock & roll is definitely ear-grabbing and utterly enjoyable. Have a listen.
A month ago Holly and Coco Chant aka Xylaroo released their debut album 'Sweetooth' on Sunday Best/PIAS. Having racked up a number of accolades for the LP, the duo now unveil the third single taken from the record. 'Lackin' draws influences from gospel and blues all the while blending with an indie folk pattern. The track will get released along with their cover of the Gloria Gaynor classic 'I Will Survive'. Have a listen.

Having gained praises for their work in The Jepettos, brother/sister duo Mike and Ruth Aicken now bring the band and their New Portals group together on one platform with the EP 'VCR & Chill'. The concept behind the new record is a select batch of New Portals tracks now remixed with The Jepettos resulting in a beautiful twist of indie folk and creamy, delicate pop. The project is a fine showcasing of the versatility of styles that the Aicken siblings have under their sleeves.

The four-song release follows her previous 2014 EP 'Home'. Providing a passionate analysis of life, Lánre's delicate vocals are gently placed amongst lush arrangements of soulful folk. Each track, whilst a moment of reflection, is more a delivery of wisdom from a messenger whose insight comes from not only internal and external factors but also that of a higher force.
