Aside from topping the charts and being caught up in celebrity gossip regarding singer Selena Gomez, The Weekend has released the official video for his single 'Party Monster'. The BRTHR-directed visuals are definitely on the weirder side of the fence as flickering effects coincide with clips of girls dressed in sexy attire, and even a cougar jumping out of a TV screen. This is sort of like experiencing a trip without the "substances".
JUNO Award-winning Canadian outfit Said The Whale have shared their new single 'Step Into The Darkness', taken from their forthcoming album 'As Long As Your Eyes Are Wide'. The song is a semi-melancholic, semi-hopeful look at a past love, lifted by swirling indie pop production.
Regarding 'Step Into The Darkness', Ben Worcester wrote:
"Step Into The Darkness" was written after a devastating break-up with my girlfriend of six years. The song is me reaching out to comfort my love, reassuring her that she is safe and despite the immense sadness and feeling of loss, perhaps good things will come. We got back together shortly thereafter."
Toronto's Austra is gearing up for the release of her new album 'Future Politics', out January 20th via Domino Records. Having shared the track 'Utopia' last month, London producer Ikonika now transforms the single into a thumping future bass meets grime remix. Using stretched synths to coincide with slow, skippy drums, this version is a head-nodder that will make you want to turn your speakers up quite loud. Check it out.
The latest video for Austra's single 'Utopia' is definitely a weird one. Sure some people will find that being in an all-white room knocking over a glass of water and eating worms a utopian experience, we're going to say that it kind of resembles either a take on heaven or a modern psych ward. The video is directed by Noe and Paul & Stefan Moore of That Go.
Remember the days when The Weeknd released NSFW type videos that either contained a vast amount of hedonism or slightly violent imagery. Well it seems as if he's returned to his old self with his latest Ilya Naishuller-directed video 'False Alarm'. Whilst there isn't much happening in terms of hedonistic episodes, there is a whole heap of violence as the video is shot from a first person perspective and entails a group of men robbing a bank, shooting people and having a battle with authorities. It kind of looks like a live version of a video game.

Canadian rockers White Lung unveil the official video for their track 'Sister'. Directed by Justin Gradin and Ben Jacques, members Mish Way-Barber and Anne-Marie Vassiliou play the characters of two phone workers who make a lonely sap (played by White Lung guitarist Kenneth William) fall in love simply by their conversations. After the two women go to the extreme of smashing stuff on the wall and all out raging, William decides that it's back to square one.
