Brixton’s muva of Earth gives thanks and appreciation for life in her latest single ‘High’.
The track is a soulful bit that is built on jazzy keys, Hip-Hop pumping drums, and an utterly funky bass line. muva of Earth’s succulent and lifting vocal performance elevates the track into that sheer state of bliss. Produced by Stephen Wesley Holmes, ‘High’ is currently out on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label.
Touching on the single
“I wanted to make a song about being high on life. You may initially think that this is another song about DrugZ however my artistry will always intend to push my audience to new and greater ways of thinking…. I remember writing ‘High’ in my bedroom whilst hanging out with my sister Angel. I had the hook in my mind for a while and would continue singing and writing more lyrics on my bus journey’s, drawing from London and my own personal experience for inspiration… I remember thinking about some friends who i was having a disagreement with at the time (I didn’t really understand why we were arguing..).
I sang and shared the melody to Steve then he came up with the bass line in response to the vision of the track, together we experimented with a few different versions. Originally I wanted to make a song that explores conceptually the highs and lows of life – the previous demo was more theatrical. However I evolved to wanting to create a tune for Summer that will have everyone feeling uplifted. You can hear a bit of lyrics from the original version in the fade out.”
