Argentina-born Hertfordshire-raised Malena Zavala has released her second album La Yarará. The record follows her 2018 debut LP ‘Aliso’. Produced by Zavala herself and recorded at Urchin Studios in London Fields, the album consists of 10 tracks in total, with the artist lyrically weaving between English and Spanish. Incorporating elements of cumbia, folk, pop and even reggaeton, vibrant Latin rhythms dance throughout as Zavala delivers a gorgeous and heartfelt performance, a brilliant continuation of her earlier work. La Yarará is out now via Yucatan Records.
Touching on the album, Malena Zavala stated:
“At the heart of the album is ‘Identity’, a song of rootlessness and yearning “that embodies the whole record. It’s about how I feel like I don’t belong to Argentina or England. I’ve just been travelling my whole life. So the whole concept is about how, wherever you go and whatever the experiences you have in the cultures you live in, they make up who you are and your character. So I had this idea of a person being about where they’ve been, not where they were born.”
