Santi White aka Santigold has traveled down quite a road in her musical career. The singer was at one time the front person for the punk band Stiffed, co writer on Res’ debut album “How I Do” and eventually went on to perform as a solo artist whose 2008 release “Santogold”, which glided across the electronic spectrum, went on the solidify her name which was accompanied by high praises from big time magazines and media houses. Now in 2012, Santigold has released her long anticipated second album “Master of My Make-Believe”. While it may have been a four year gap, the Brooklyn based artist effortlessly picks up where she left off with a continuation of electronic alchemy courtesy of producers such as Diplo, Switch, Kurstin, Ricky Blaze, Santigold herself and more. The hybrid of wobbly beats meets digital dancehall meets quirky dirty south could be interpreted as party music or a soundtrack to a straight riot depending on the situation. Santigold’s ability to subtly incorporate what may be perceived as social-lit is brilliant in the fact that, well once again, depending on where you sit, is left up for interpretation. The only complaint may be that the general album is only eleven songs. So there is at times a yearning for more. While Santigold may be a master of what she conceives as her possible imagination, she is undoubtedly a master of her musical craft.
