Kaleidoscope
INFRACom!

“Kaleidoscope” is an appropriately fitting title for the latest album by the Frankfurt band [re:jazz]. The tone is as vibrant and beautiful as the spectrum of the rainbow. Their presence in the nu jazz scene extends over a decade now and like a fine wine, the group’s music continues to develop with grace. One of the key factors of “Kaleidoscope” is the attempt to diversify the underlying jazz rhythms from not just the moody, sometimes dramatic compositions but also the idea they can have fun and at times, just simply jam. “Voodoo People” explores Latin jazz/funk patterns while “Eins Eins” swings with a boogaloo style with the type of groove that would make Jimmy Smith give two thumbs up. Songstress N’dea Davenport contributes vocals to “Don’t Push Your Luck” which brings back a bit of nostalgia of the acid jazz days that has long been missed. There still remains the straight forward pieces such as “Murmuration” and the sad yet beautiful “Miss You” that affords the group the title of a true jazz band which ultimately, is what they are. “Kaleidoscope” isn’t about the “hot trend” of music but rather…music and for those who long to bathe in a more rich and organic sound then this record is a sonic cleansing.
