On Easter Saturday 19th April 2014, Memory Box returns to Plan B to continue its series of parties that explore the ‘History of Acid House’. This next instalment comes from pirate radio resident rapper, come pop star, come House & Techno royalty, Mr.C and Chicago based Hip House creator, Tyree Cooper.

Mr.C was one of the first names on the Memory Box wish list. He’s a genuine London acid house hero who’s been involved with the scene from way back. Front man of The Shamen and co-owner of The End, one of London’s best and sorely missed clubs, and co-owner of End Recordings, Mr.C has been at the forefront of many evolving underground scenes. His Superfreq nights and label are a great example of what acid house has evolved into.

Mr.C says… “The wheels in my memory box are turning & all sorts of musical goodies are flowing, which means I can’t wait to bring you the best of 80’s & early 90’s Acid House, Detroit Techno & other aural delights that sound every bit as good today as they always have. Timeless music that fuelled not only the beginnings of my illustrious career, but also the culture we know & love today.”

Memory Box is also proud to be welcoming an artist regarded as one of the most influential in the international house scene, Tyree Cooper. This Chicago based legend, along with his friend and fellow DJ ‘Fast Eddie’ Smith, is known for creating the crossover breed of house music known in the late 80’s as Hip House. In the mid 80’s Tyree was releasing tracks with Chicago underground label DJ International including the 1986 classic ‘I Fear The Night’ ft. Chic, ‘Acid Over’(1988), ‘Turn Up The Bass’ (1988/89),’Let’s Get Hyped’ (feat. Kool Rock Steady, 1989), ‘Let the Music Take Control’(1989) and ‘Hardcore Hip House’ (1989).

“My Memory Box set will totally be Classic Chicago unreleased House and Disco, with some Detroit House all in the mix”. Because music has gone too far away from the root, the essence, the vibe, and we need to have a sense of urgency to bring forth what was once a big part of our culture worldwide. And now we must educate our young “House Heads” or our strides will have been lost in the annals of time. So I have devoted my life to this musical cause, because I have lived it and I can now tell the story with the original way it was supposed to be given to the “House Heads” on the one’s and two’s and the very best House Music you may have never heard….” Tyree Cooper.

Memory Box celebrated its first birthday at Plan B in January with a fuzzy hug inducing party to the acid house soundtracks of A Guy Called Gerald, 808 State and new boy Saytek. In its inaugural year, Memory Box has captured and celebrated defining moments in the last few decades of electronic music. Delving deep into its rich history, Memory Box trawls the archives to produce a broad selection of sonic memoirs to enlighten, inspire and educate a new generation.

Previous explorations through the Memory Box have heard A Guy Called Gerald, 808 State and Saytek play A History Of Acid House, Tom Middleton giving a history class on the Roland 808, A History of Bass with Pinch, Plastician and Altern-8, Unique 3 playing Bass, Beats & Bleeps, Rennie Pilgrem playing an old skool breaks set, Justin Robertson on a classic acid house tip, Mark Archer playing his warehouse rave classics, Jerome Hill spinning old skool techno and a live PA from Shades of Rhythm who hosted the Memory Box Social Christmas Party.
