We’re back at Plan B for another Red Bull Music Academy show-stopper, if this doesn’t get rid of your January blues nothing will!
First up we welcome back to Louche seminal Detroit artist, Omar S. Up there with the likes of Derrick May, Carl Craig and Jeff Mills, Alex Omar Smith has been another major player in the Motor City Sound. In the game for over ten years, releasing music on his label FXHE, Alex has set the world alight with his raw, unfiltered and anthemic house and techno masterpieces. With his new album out this month, there surely hasn’t been a better time to see Alex play in London than now.
A Detroit boy from another era is next up, the wildly talented Kyle Hall. Described when breaking through as one of the most talented youngsters around by fellow Mo Town luminaries Theo Parish and Omar S, Kyle’s status has sky rocketed since his first release when he was just 15! His label Wild Oats has been his main output, but he’s also released on FXHE, Warp and Third Ear over the years. He’s a master of deep house of course, but Kyle has also proved his ability to move seamlessly between genres, switching it up with soulful hip hop, jazzy ambient and futuristic electro music.
Putting out classy house and disco edits on Future Times, Rush Hour and Retreat, Hunee completes the action in Room 1. A great producer but even greater DJ, the Korean born Berlin resident has been on our radar since he taught us a lesson in technical DJing the first time we saw him spin. The guy’s turntable skills need to be seen and heard to be believed!
Resident of rural Tuscany, Nick Anthony Simoncino’s musical stylings are deeply rooted in the sounds of Chicago and Detroit rather than the Italian countryside. A vinyl junkie and total hardware nerd, Simoncino’s impressive discography includes loads solo releases, collabs with Tevo Howard, he’s even been remixed by Mr Larry Heard. Check his 2012 Louche Podcast for what to expect in Plan B’s intimate second room.
And finally Mr Beatnik, a Londoner and RBMA graduate who’s career started in Hip Hop, before turning his ears to House and Techno. His music is quirky, shuffly and downright groovy, perfect for the intimate second room, which by the way is hosted tonight by our pals Oscillate Wildly.
Our previous RBMA event last November was probably the finest London party we have ever thrown, with the sound, visuals, crowd and overall atmosphere all at unbelievable levels. Join us this January as we do it all over again.
