Wiley has had an interesting year. He released his ninth album “The Ascent” back on the 1st of April on Warner Brothers. Three days later he stated on twitter that he was walking out on the label, claiming he “didn’t need them anymore”. In June, the “Godfather of Grime” aired his frustrations with Glastonbury Festival for apparently “not paying him enough”, not to mention having to deal with the bad weather, and asked them to “please cancel” him. If that wasn’t enough, in July Wiley had issues with the CockRock Festival, walked off of the stage after 15 minutes of performing, due to disrespect by the audience, and took to twitter calling Cumbria a “county of witches children”. July also saw Wiley’s return to Big Dada, releasing the Z-Dot produced, grime single “Flying” in August. The later part of 2013 seemed to have moved positively upwards for the East London artist as he recently won Best Male Act at the MOBO Awards in October.
Big Dada has now unveiled the forthcoming single by Wiley titled “Born in the Cold” featuring Andreena Mill. The mellow and hypnotic song produced by Kid D finds Wiley in a nice range and comforting position. Sounding like something that would have been fitting for his “Chill Out Zone” album, this isn’t a glossy pop song for the charts but rather a track of reflection and something for his day one fans.
Wiley “Born in the Cold” is out December 2nd on Big Dada/A-List.
