Pink Stiletto is the musical project of San Francisco artist Valery Kvochkova, formerly of the band Deux Nomiz. And while she doesn’t have loads of solo tracks flooding the market, her EP New Wava is way too good to ignore.
Released back in May of this year, New Wava is comprised of four tracks that embody the very goodness of late 70s – early 80s new wave, synth-pop, punk, and even Italo disco. There are sonic influences ranging from Gary Numan to Lizzy Mercier Descloux, with each song fostering nostalgic periods of the creative 70s DIY scene in cities such as NYC, London, and Berlin. In a way, the EP is a reminder of when the music wasn’t simply isolated, rather closely tied to fashion, art, and community. Whilst the musical palette is familiar, New Wava is utterly refreshing in a time where many acts are simply following the latest trends. Check it out.
