There is soul and funk, and then there is SOUL and FUNK. The latter is that golden era, JB-drop it one the one-funk, that only precise musicians could pull off when need be. So when listening to Nick Pride & The Pimptones’ “Take Care”, you know that you’re listening to a record from a batch of musicians who understand the importance of the exact style of soul and funk that I’m talking about.
Horns blaze ferociously only to scale back while when lush change-ups occur, bringing the song from racing to a soulful romanticism. There is almost a composition feel similar to some of the sounds of Diana Ross & The Supremes circa 1967-70, which is a pleasant enjoyment. “Take Care” is taken from Nick Pride & The Pimptones’ Forthcoming album “Rejuiced Phat Shake”, out 14th Feb. 2014 on Légère Recordings.
Nick Pride & The Pimptones’ “Take Care” b/w “Everything Is Better In The Summertime” is out now on 45′ and digitally.
