When someone like Kim Gordon has accomplished as much she has in the world of rock, which is more or less a tree with branches that include the sub-genres of punk, post-punk, no wave, indie, alternative, experimental, and more, what else is left? Well I suppose you go more electronic than the last album, add Hip-Hop elements to it, and then, well, rap. Now as absurd as this would look on paper, this is exactly the case with Gordon’s new single titled ‘Bye Bye’. The song is taken from her forthcoming album ‘The Collective’, landing March 8th.
Now in all fairness, Kim is doing more of a kind of non-rhyming spoken word but kind of emcee flow delivery over gritty synth lines, and swinging drums. There are sprinkles of noise rock added into the mix, with the track eventually morphing into this chaotic alchemy. Now with all that being said, ‘Bye Bye’ is also really good! It essentially demonstrates Gordon’s wizard like magic to not only draw outside the lines of conventionalism, but do it in a way that is utterly creative and impactful.
Kim Gordon has also shared a video to go along with the single. Directed by Clara Balzary, the visuals features her daughter Coco Gordon Moore.
