Shawn Carter, known to the world as Jay-Z, made an official announcement today that the New Jersey Nets basketball team will take on the name of the Brooklyn Nets as the transistion of the NBA franchise from its current New Jersey home to Brooklyn New York will take place in 2012. Standing at the podium with a group of students from Brooklyn’s George Westinghouse High School, the entrepreneur, who owns a stake in the team, stated how humbled and excited he was regarding the change. The Nets will play at the Barclays Center which is being built in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.
