In the 1980s Harlem’s Dapper Dan’s clothing was one of the most in-demand among everyone ranging from rappers, singers, gangsters and just your average guy or girl who wanted to feel a taste of glamour. Reworking Gucci prints and crafting attire with a street edge, by 1992 Dapper Dan was forced to closed down his shop due to a lawsuit brought upon him for copyright infringement. However, when the news was announced last year that Dapper Dan and Gucci would actually do a collaborative line, there were sentiments of joy and also confusion. Questions of why the brand wanted to now officially work with the designer after 25 years were surely appropriate. Yet with the collection finally out, one thing is for certain, it is blazing hot, harking back to Dan’s reign of the 80s – 90s periods. Pieces include velour tracksuits, printed tees, v-neck sweaters and backpacks. You can view the collection at the Gucci website.
