UK label head, radio presenter, DJ, and tastemaker Gilles Peterson and jazz legend ‘Bluey’ Maunick make their return as STR4TA with a forthcoming new album titled STR4TASFEAR. The record marks the follow-up of their 2021 debut LP Aspects. Paying homage to the 70s/80s Brit-Funk period, STR4TASFEAR continues that legacy, something that both Peterson and Maunick have both played key roles in spanning decades.
Along with the announcement, Gilles Peterson and ‘Bluey’ Maunick have also shared a new single titled ‘Turn Me Around’. A stealth and grooving offering of pristine jazz funk which you could only come to expect from both trailblazers, below is a stream of the track.
STR4TASFEAR will get released via Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label.
Touching on the new album, Gilles Peterson mentioned:
“STR4TASFEAR is a continuation from our first project, celebrating the ground breaking Brit-Funk era of the late 70s/ early 80s while continuing the story with the rise of the drum machine; paying homage to the Acid Jazz and Electro Soul that followed and the evolution that inspired club culture and new Jazz of recent times. For me its a record of parallels, not only in music but a lot of the issues we are experiencing today began in that Brit-Funk era. The parallels in the political landscape of that time and today are poignant and the moment of overall change we are living in is reflected in this record. Bluey is a significant executer of exhibiting the important social questions through music from a Black British perspective and its an honour to work with him.”
