The old saying goes, “sometimes you have to know the past in order to understand where you are going in the future”. In the case of Brighton producer Zak Brashill aka Etch, his forthcoming EP “Old School Methods” drives the vehicle in reverse, down the road of early dubstep, dark garage and jungle/drum and bass.

With a release date of 23rd September on Keysound Recordings, “Old School Methods” is a four track EP that brings listeners back to the early days when dark overtones sat atop sophisticated production, completely entrancing rave patrons. Rapid rolling breaks, four count bass hits and stabbing piano riffs are the construction of “Hybrid”, while “Sounds” featuring J-One makes a stop at the latter period of UK garage, to then dubstep with reference points of Horsepower Productions. Tracks “Sphinx” and “Lost Methods” may incorporate the drum programming of jungle but Etch slows down the beats per minute, giving each song more space and room for the menacing basslines and echoing samples to flood in.

Etch may only be in his early twenties, but his latest EP “Old School Methods” sits comfortably beside the work of more seasoned drum and bass and UKG veterans.

“Old School Methods” is out 23rd September on Keysound Recordings.
