Disclosure have hit the top of the UK Album Charts in the first week of release of their debut LP, ‘Settle’. After a close-run battle with Queens Of The Stone Age, the brotherly duo of Guy and Howard Lawrence pipped Josh Homme’s outfit to the #1 spot by around 7,000 copies, closing the week on just shy of 45,000 sales, and in the process heralding a changing of the guard by ending Daft Punk’s three week reign at the top of the charts. The duo also demonstrated their international appeal, with strong sales around the world landing them in the US iTunes Top 5, and the national Top 5 in Australia.
The pair told the Official Charts Company:
“We’re absolutely delighted with the result. Proudest moment of our lives. We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has bought the record.”
The feat caps a phenomenal 2013 so far for the pair, who had already bagged two Top 10 singles with ‘White Noise’ and ‘You & Me’, and have been busy playing live to packed-out audiences around the world. Their movements even in the space of the last week epitomise their hard work ethic, celebrating the album’s launch in association with Boiler Room on Monday, appearing on ‘Later… With Jools Holland’ on Tuesday and Friday to perform ‘Latch’ (with Sam Smith) and ‘Confess To Me’ (with Jessie Ware) respectively, stopping in to Radio 1’s Live Lounge on Wednesday to perform tracks from ‘Settle’ along with a special cover version of Duke Dumont’s ‘Need U (100%)’, and on Saturday played a triumphant live set at Parklife Festival in Manchester.
