Boddika (Non Plus)
Clockwork (Life & Death)
Dense & Pika (Hotflush)
X takes over Egg on Friday 1st November for a Halloween special packed full of terrifyingly good House and Techno. As head of Nonplus and a former member of zeitgeist defining Drum and Bass duo Instra:Mental, Boddika has inhabited the most razor sharp part of the cutting for many years now. Never one to beat around the bush with his productions, he’s responsible for some of the UK underground’s biggest dancefloor smashes of recent years, with the likes of ‘Acid Jackson’, ‘When I Dip’ and ‘Battery Acid’ applying a fearsome chrome plated exterior to classic Detroit sounds. Collaborating with fellow leading light Joy Orbison led to bona fide cross over anthems ‘Swims’ and ‘Mercy’ amongst others, whilst his recently released on 12” on Swamp81 ‘Black/Steam’ would seem to suggest that his hot hot streak isn’t letting up anytime soon.
Basking in the glory of his acclaimed debut LP, ‘B.O.A.T.S’, out earlier in the year on Life And Death, Clockwork come to Egg to take everyone down his bleak and beautiful rabbit hole. Although he displayed supreme mastery of texture, dynamics and atmosphere on their album, Clockwork never takes his eyes off the prize; his music may be emotional but he’ll be damned if it isn’t danceable to boot.
Consisting of Hypercolour boss Alex Jones and House stalwart Glimpse, Dense and Pika have burst on to the scene in the last twelve months with their barnstorming techno jams for Hotflush and other imprints. The pair only have one thing in mind when in the studio or behind the decks: to get people dancing. Pared down to the essentials, theirs is music to lose your mind to whilst in a room full of people doing exactly the same, industrial drums, lazer synths and bloodthirsty basslines serving as their tools for dancefloor destruction.
