With his latest album And I Have Been regarded as a true work of art by the press, London singer, musician, and songwriter Benjamin Clementine has released a short film titled Portraits Of Lovelustreman.
Directed by Curtis Essel and produced by Preserve Artists, Portraits Of Lovelustreman is a beautifully shot piece that finds Benjamin Clementine directing a choir in an old cathedral whilst sitting in silence in certain scenes, grappling with emotions. Dance movement amongst the choir adds to the gorgeous visuals. This is part 1 of the film, we can only guess that part 2 will be equally if not more stunning.
Regarding the film, Benjamin Clementine mentioned:
“Portraits of Lovelustreman explores survival, marriage, courage, silence, reflections, friendship, self control and love. Filming in 35mm, ensured that most of the takes were shot in one. This created special moments of improvisation, giving freedom to the crew, and brought out a visceral level of authenticity in all of the artists’ performances. Allowing us to take in the questions along with the non-conventional responses to them.”
