Fusing the sounds of riotous punk and dark art pop, ‘MONK’ is a raging tackle on Gao’s struggles which include everything from depression to her anxiety pertaining to climate change. Aside from the instrumentation moving like a speeding bullet train, there are moments in the song where Alice Longyu Gao, literally.

Alice Longyu Gao has also unveiled an accompanying video which features her swimming in the sea whilst painted like creature of the ocean. The visuals are directed by Grace McCartney.
