Whilst the lacking of diverse models has been a topic for years in the fashion world, recently various brands have been making attempts at providing a wider range of models for their campaigns. Swedish brand Acne Studios are celebrating diversity with their Spring/Summer 17 campaign shot by Paolo Roversi. Rather than using models to showcase their new collection, the company have chosen to spotlight various artists, musicians, etc. of Middle Eastern heritage. Fatima Al Qadiri, Hayv Kahraman, Sadaf H. Nava, Yasmina Benabdelkrim, Negar Azimi and Golshifteh Farahan are all the faces of the campaign with the Acne Studios drawing inspiration from traditional and non-traditional patterns and prints.
In a press statement regarding the S/S 17 campaign, Creative Director Jonny Johansson wrote:
“This collection is about openness, and looking out into the world. I wanted to see what would happen when we asked Paolo to shoot portraits of artists and creatives from many different countries, with his own signature and atmosphere. Watching him work in his studio in Paris was like alchemy and such an honour.”
