South London-based artist Mela Femmina makes her debut with a track entitled ‘Hello Chic’, which is out now on the Slow Dance label.

A sleek fusion of indie pop, shimmering synth-wave, Italo, and even funk, ‘Hello Chic’ is packed with an unstoppable groove and lush melodies that make for a fantastic introduction. The tune is a recreation of a cut found on a set of 1980s Italo disco demos that was giving to her by a friend. The result is pure magic.

Regarding the single, Mela Femmina mentioned:

“‘Hello Chic’ for me was really about my emancipation after a long and intense relationship, finding my feet and transforming this pain into something positive and cathartic that involved one of the places so close to my heart – Bologna.”

Italian musician Franco Nanni, who played on the original demos said:

“I am really happy that our pieces have found a new life in Emilia’s (Mela) project, because they are not covers or represses, she’s given them a completely new life, with new lyrics, something that stands by itself. I feel like our 20-year-old-selves from the 80s have been reborn and found new meaning too, through this project.”
