Back in 2017, Australian outfit jade imagine released their debut EP What The Fuck Was I Thinking on Courtney Barnett’s Milk! Records. A lush combo of art-pop, indie and more, the group left fans yearning for a full-length. Whilst there is still no indicator of exactly when that will happen, jade imagine have unveiled a new song and video titled ‘Big Old House’. Directed by James Thomson and Jade McInally, the retro shot vid features the band randomly enjoying things like swimming and flying discs. There are also clips of McInally engaged in a film, as well as the group performing the song in a studio. ‘Big Old House’ is currently out now on Milk! Records and the London imprint Marathon Artists.
Regarding the single and video, front woman Jade McInally said:
“This song came to me in a dream. I woke up and sang the melody into my phone. It’s about holding the mirror up to yourself. There is light in the dark. Letting yourself feel okay again. Rebirth. Getting back to basics. Musically, we channelled the inner Kraut to make the rock.
The film clip is an extension of the themes within song; it’s about telling yourself in your darker moments to let the good things in, even if all you feel is negativity. James Thomson and the band directed it together, shooting between the Coburg pool, velodrome, and a warehouse in Fairfield in New South Wales that we usually rehearse at. I was particularly inspired by the lighting in Dario Argento’s film Suspiria and the brainwashing content Kubrick’s Clockwork Orange.”
