The news of the passing of singer Amy Winehouse sent shocks throughout the world as the talented vocalist died in her London home on July 23, 2011. The causes of her death are still unknown yet many rumors have been linked to drug or alcohol related use. No concrete analysis has surfaced. Winehouse’s 2003 debut album “Frank” was welcomed with critically acclaimed reviews and praises with her strong jazz influenced vocals earning her comparisons to past greats of the genre and even a developed friendship with singer Tony Bennett, whom she recorded with. It would be her second album “Back To Black” released in 2006, that would earn the British born singer five Grammy awards. As her success heightened so did the haunting troubles that seemed to plague Winehouse. A long battle with drug and alcohol abuse contributed to the downhill spiral that made it very difficult for her to rebound from. With talks of a third album supposedly to be on its way, now questions are arising on whether it will in fact see a release date.
Amy Winehouse helped to create a path for young, talented British singers of this generation. Artists ranging from Adele to M.I.A. have all given their condolences and acknowledgements of the brilliant artistry that was displayed by the singer whose music shall forever live on.
