In 2006 Brian ‘B. Kyle’ Atkins directed “Still Shining”, a recent documentary about the late, great J Dilla which features footage of the Detroit-born icon at work, as well as Dilla interview footage. There are also guests appearances by Common, Erykah Badu, Quest Love, Q-Tip, Pete Rock, Dwele, Bilal and a slew of others.
James Yancey aka J Dilla’s legacy in music is set in stone as the producer/emcee is credited for creating songs for artists including Janet Jackson, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, Slum Village, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli and The Pharcyde, just to name a small few. Dilla’s influence can be heard in beat scenes around the world.
Previously fighting lupus, J Dilla sadly passed away February 10th 2006, three days after his 32nd birthday, due to cardiac arrest.
