Unit 5 Gallery is proud to present ‘TAR’; the debut UK solo exhibition from BAULT.

The highly imaginative surrealist French painter and street artist has become a cult icon over the past few years for his playful, insanely colourful yet highly technically characters which have been produced on all
manner of surfaces – both legally and illegally – across the world.

Originally from the Aveyron region in the South of France and now a resident of Paris, BAULT started painting graffiti in 1997 and entered the École des Beaux-Arts d’Avignon before moving to the school of Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg. From his graffiti artworks, the artist evolved to experiment with video art, graphic design and illustration.

In all his work, BAULT shows the same obsession for drawing. By exploring different techniques and materials, the artist creates his own mythology enjoying his freedom to transform and recompose places, objects, animals, people, styles. Deconstructing preconceptions and embracing the singularities of the objects he works with, the artist creates a joyful amalgam. BAULT plays with the absurd inviting us to question our preconceived sense of reality.

His first London show will see him transform the gallery space with a huge variety of works created with a plethora of traditional and non-traditional materials.

The exhibition will also extend beyond the gallery walls, with the East London landscape becoming a canvas for a variety of murals and street pieces set to take place as part of the residency.

The exhibition runs from 14th October until 3rd November 2016.
